To date, my all-time favorite anime is Assassination Classroom. Assassination Classroom opens with a shot of the moon Koro-Sensei which was destroyed almost entirely. Koro-Sensei tells the governments of the world that unless they kill him within a year, he will destroy the earth. Koro-Sensei, this yellow octopus-like creature towering over 9 feet tall, is a funny, energetic, cocky, slightly self-conscious, but extremely confident creature. Koro-Sensei can move at Mach 20, and is invulnerable to normal weapons, in fact, they melt when they touch him (the only thing that melts him, is junk food!). So quickly SAAUSO (Special arms against unidentified slimy octopus) weapons are made for the fight against him. After weeks of toying with militaries of the world, he tells them he just wants to settle down and teach class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High. The Department of (Japanese) defense agrees to 2 terms, 1. He must not harm a student and 2. The students must try to assassinate him. The department of defense will reward whoever kills Koro-Sensei 10 billion yen (90,351,000 UDS). We now move to class 3-E dubbed “the end class”. This is a class for students who either have lacking grades or behavior problems. Here we meet our main characters alongside some other notable characters.
First up is Nagisa Shiota, our main character, Nagisa is a boy (yes he’s a boy, *wink*) who is very analytical but very squirrelish. He is always (literally always!) taking notes on Koro-Sensei for future reference. Nagisa ended up in E-class due to his bad grades. He seems like nothing special at first, but in true anime fashion, he becomes better and better in many different ways. Next, we have everyone’s favorite psychopath, Karma Akabane. Karma is a redheaded hothead who wants to fight everyone, he has killer smarts (literally) and insane fighting skills, he ended up in E-class due to a fight he had with a student that ended with the other student with multiple severe injuries including many broken bones. Karma is labeled the danger kid for this. There are many more students, and you’ll get to know and love all of them, well at least love most. Now we move onto the teachers. Of course, there’s the main teacher, Koro-Sensei, who is an amazing teacher who knows just how to help all of his students, but then there is the English teacher, Irina Jelavić, remarkably beautiful a Russian assassin hired to kill Koro-Sensei. She is incredibly smart and skilled when it comes to assassination and communication skills, but with anything other than that, she is basically clueless. This brings us to our last character, Tadaomi Karasuma, the PE teacher. Karasuma is a bad-ass ex-soldier who now works for the department of defense. He is the man in charge who’s there to make sure the job gets done. He teaches the students of class-E fighting skills to use against Koro-Sensei, but while Koro-Sensei teaches them so much, doesn’t he teach them how to be adults, a team, and people of actual value.
Assassination Classroom is a character-driven show that will make you laugh, cry, and laugh again all the while focusing on very serious subjects. You can watch Assassination Classroom on Hulu, its only 2
Woot, I loved this how! It was the best Anime I have watched!
